Simple Pleasures, Number 18

Been a while since I did one of these but inspiration struck this morning c/o our local deli and a need for a smackerel of something to accompany the morning coffee. There, on the side of the counter, under a plastic cloche, sat a plate of pasteis de nata. Seriously, who needs a cronut or a dosant when you can have thick, almost set custard cupped by crispy layers of rich pastry? Thank you Portugal - and your chickens - for making this little thing of beauty possible. And for proving I can do one of these Simple Pleasures posts without pigs having to die.

Also my favourite indulgence. Too good!
...or even a British custard tart. With a sprinkle of nutmeg on top it's a simple pleasure that's hard to beat.
